Hovercraft Design Competition

The AIAA UCF Hovercraft Design Competition organizes students into teams with goals to design, model, build, and test remote controlled hovercrafts culminating in a final competition. The competition is open to members of all grades and majors. The competition’s mission is to serve as an introductory engineering competition that teaches basic engineering skills and practices such as 3D modeling and iterative designs. The competition introduces students to professional communication and project presentation in a competitive environment. The competition introduces and reinforces practices for success execution of projects in future academic and professional careers.

Participants will...

  • Learn basic drafting and modeling in SOLIDWORKS.

  • Present their reasoning behind design decisions.

  • Learn the iterative design process.

  • Gain a basic knowledge of circuitry.

  • Learn and abide by common safety practices in a lab.

  • Develop critical thinking skills necessary for engineering design.

  • Gain experience with hands-on building techniques.
